Baltiysky Zavod will receive a contract for two more icebreakers "Arctic"

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting at the Baltic Shipyard on November 28 in St. Petersburg announced his intention to extend the construction of a series of icebreakers of the project 22220 (“Arctic”).

According to the press service of the plant, in the next few months the company will receive a contract for the construction of two more such icebreakers, in addition to the three available.

In 2012, the Baltiysky Zavod received a contract for the construction of the Arktika worth 37 billion rubles, in 2014 a contract for two more vessels worth 84.4 billion. The delivery of the first three icebreakers is expected in 2022. 

“In addition, following the meeting with the Prime Minister, it became clear that the Baltic Shipyard will participate in the construction of new nuclear icebreakers Leader, despite the fact that they will be built in the Far East,” the company said. The cost of the "Leader" is estimated at 95-99 billion rubles.

During his visit to the plant, Dmitry Medvedev inspected the icebreaker under construction “Arktika”, where mooring trials, commissioning and interior decoration are currently underway.
