The final decision on the construction, the timing of the project, as well as its cost will be taken by the management of Roshydromet

Arctic and Antarctic research Institute has prepared proposals for the creation of a research vessel to work in polar waters, said Friday TASS Director of the Institute Alexander Makarov.

"We have and will continue to increase the need for new research vessels. We now have two such vessels, but one of them - "Academician Fedorov" - has been in service for more than thirty years. He needs a replacement. We have prepared the relevant studies, proposals, sent to Roshydromet", - said Makarov at the forum "Arctic: Present and future".

According to him, the final decision on the construction and timing of the project, as well as its cost will be taken by the management of Roshydromet.

Previously, the Agency has announced its intention to build on the Russian shipyards three of the research vessel. The Ministry of higher education and science also announced plans to build two courts.

The forum "Arctic: Present and future", organized by the Association of polar explorers, is held in St. Petersburg from 5 to 7 December. Its participants discuss the protection of the environment of the Northern regions, the development of infrastructure projects, the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples, youth policy in the Arctic and training. About 2 thousand people from the Arctic regions of Russia and more than 20 countries, including all the member States of the Arctic Council, take part in the work. TASS is the General information partner of the forum.

In the framework of the creation of the concept of tourism development in the Arctic territory, the specialists of the Russian geographical society (RGS) and the Federal tourism Agency will develop projects for the promotion of tourism in the Arctic. Scientists, business structures and public figures will take part in the work on the projects, reports TASS with reference to the Deputy head of the Department of state tourism projects and security of tourism Rosturizm Tatyana Menshikov.

"We aim to create specific projects on Arctic tourism, and the approach should be special to preserve the nature of the Arctic, "Menshikova said at the III international tourism forum"Accessible Arctic".

First of all, the participants of the event discussed the need to reduce administrative barriers that prevent cruise companies from entering the Northern waters, and the number of tourists to increase. Now, according to the managing Director of the international Union of marine protected areas of the Arctic and the Far East "Arctic 21 century" Valery Korovkin, the state Duma sent proposals to simplify the rules of crossing the border and the movement of goods and people along the Northern sea route.

Korovkin noted that the development of cruise tourism will not require large investments in infrastructure. Thus, modern small vessels for 200-300 people do not need mooring walls, because people are transported to the shore by boats.

At the end of October, a working group on the development of tourism in the Arctic zone in the national and international markets was established in Rosturizm. The Advisory body will work on the development of tourism infrastructure in the Arctic. Prior to that, the United shipbuilding Corporation (USC) announced its intention to develop Arctic tourism. The company was going to build dozens of cruise icebreakers.
