The State Commission on Reserves has entered a new gas deposit in the Arctic into its register. The deposit’s natural gas reserves are estimated at 800 billion cubic meters.

The deposit, located in the Kara Sea, has already been named after Marshall Georgy Zhukov.

While exploring the new deposit, Rosneft bored a well 1.6 kilometers deep. Rosneftexperts believe that the gas field can be put in a “unique” category under the current reserves classification system.

The company stated that the Marshall Zhukov deposit is close to the Pobeda field, which is rich in both natural gas and oil. The two fields are located in the East-Prinovozemelsky1 area, where prospecting has been underway since 2014.
