"Ilya Muromets" has arrived to the Northern Fleet

The ice breaker constructed in St. Petersburg on Admiralty Shipyards is intended for ensuring basing and expansion of forces of the fleet in ice conditions, independent conducting of the ships and vessels, their towing providing and also carrying out research and hydrographic works.

 

"The crew has made the first transition from the Baltic Sea to Kola Bay, the chief of the press service of Sevflot captain of the 1st rank Vadim Serga has reported to RIA Novosti.

"Under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet admiral Nikolay Evmenovan the mooring in Severomorsk there has taken place the grand welcome of the Ilya Muromets ice breaker. The admiral Nikolay Evmenov has congratulated seamen on a successful completion of transition to the Northern Fleet and arrival to the constant place of basing" — he has told.

In the nearest future the crew of the vessel will hand over tasks according to a course of training and will start performance of work on the direct mission.

The diesel electric ice breaker of the project 21180 "Ilya Muromets" is a new generation of the multipurpose vessel intended for icebreaking ensuring basing and expansion of forces of the fleet in ice conditions, independent conducting of the ships and vessels, their towing providing and also carrying out research and hydrographic works. The ice breaker has been put on Admiralty Shipyards on April 23, 2015, floated in June, 2016.

Solemn raising the flag of the auxiliary fleet on the diesel electric ice breaker "Ilya Muromets" has taken place on November 30, 2017. This day is considered date of the official introduction of the vessel in structure of forces of the Northern Fleet.
